Frequently Asked Questions

What is NeurOptimal®?

NeurOptimal® is an established brain training system that uses your brain’s electrical activity to provide feedback in real time. Brain training is for anyone and everyone. You don’t need an assessment or diagnosis. Your brain simply uses the information, or “feedback”, to balance and adjust. Brain training can help you better cope with life’s daily challenges. What is a session like?

A training session lasts about a half an hour. Sitting comfortably, you wear small sensors on your head and ears. The sensors pick up the electrical activity in your brain (just like a EKG picks up the activity of your heart).

As you listen to music, the system picks up shifts in brain signals and alerts your brain with small clicks or pauses in the music. Your brain can adjust its activity, without any conscious decision from you. Or your brain may continue activity that it finds helpful. The system is neutral: there is no reward or disincentive to your brain for shifting and rebalancing. The brain will learn over time how to organize itself more efficiently.

While you are listening to the music, you can do other activities. You can read or simply relax. Children may play video games on a personal device.

What can I expect after a session?

Brain training is non-invasive. There is nothing being “done” to you or your brain. Instead, your brain adjusts itself, and these adjustments can affect your entire central nervous system. Brain training can help promote calmness, better sleep, and feeling more focused. Brain training can help you better cope with life’s challenges.

What you may notice after a session will depend on your body and your life experience. Many people benefit from brain training feeling refreshed, more focused, less stressed, and better rested. Others may not feel effects right away. We can help you track any changes over time.

How much does it cost?

In-office sessions are $100. Fees are due at time of service. We accept checks, PayPal, Venmo, and CashApp.

We ask that you please provide 24 hour notice if you need to cancel an appointment, or you will be charged.

The FDA has categorized NeurOptimal® as a wellness device, which means you don’t need a referral. NeurOptimal® sessions are not covered by insurance. However, your flexible medical spending account may reimburse for biofeedback. Ask us for a receipt to submit for reimbursement.

How many sessions will I need?

Every person and every brain is different. And our lives are changing every day. Brain training is something you can add to your wellness routine weekly or monthly, or as you feel you need it. You can track how you feel over time and decide to continue sessions or decide to stop. It is completely up to you.
